Letter: Questioning Toyota's gas pedal resolution

This Toyota pedal recall makes no sense to me.

Some of the people hurt or killed were trained drivers and one of the first things they would try is to tap the gas pedal and/ or try to raise it with the side of their foot. This is a normal thing to do and has happened to most trained drivers before on the old style rod or cable carburetor systems.

This would have stopped the problem if it was just a minor drag on the pedal.

This would have failed only if something broke, froze or jammed the pedal or if the pedal is not the problem.

This is something race car drivers, police, mechanics and others have learned to do for years while driving or working on cars when the motor starts to race.

So is this just a quick guess and fix because they have not found the real problem?
