Letter: Sullenger counts pennies to save dollars
There is an old adage that if you count your pennies, your dollars will take care of themselves.
As we face the tough economic times, it is imperative that the people of Sutter County have a supervisor who knows how to count pennies — someone who has successfully managed budgets and run businesses.
Ron Sullenger is the right candidate to help to manage the budget and make the tough choices and proper budget reductions.
As any successful business owner or manager knows, salaries can make or break your business.
Ron brings this knowledge and skill set to the table from day one. Ron has spent countless hours listening to the citizens and analyzing where changes can be made.
In talking with Ron, I learned that a supervisor may opt to receive a self-awarded lifetime pension after five years of service in a part time elected position. This is an extra perk that previous supervisors have created for themselves and their successors.
Ron has committed to changing this. It may seem like pennies to pay a long time former supervisor roughly $1,400 per month for life when compared to the overall county budget, but we simply cannot afford this.
Our tax dollars are better spent on reasonable pensions for full time county employees after many years of public service, not on golden parachutes for elected officials.
Ron is a man of integrity with a strong business background.
He will save our pennies so the dollars take care of themselves. Please consider voting for Ron Sullenger for Sutter County Supervisor, District 1.
