Letter: People should be nicer to each other

I am appalled at how people are wanting to blame certain people for the Connecticut tragedy, the Oregon mall shooting and many more of these incidents. Sure, we can blame Hollywood. Sure, we can blame the parents who raised these shooters. In reality, we're all to blame for what has happened.

As busy, self-centered people, we look past people with mental illnesses. We label them as the nerds, freaks and many more nasty words.

If we were more accepting of these people and showed them kindness and compassion and less hate, maybe less of these violent attacks would happen.

As a student, I have seen bullying. I have seen people that are "different" be treated like animals. It's not OK. It's not OK that 20 innocent children have to die for us to realize this.

I just wish that people would realize our own faults before these tragedies happen. We should all be nicer to each other despite our differences.
