Over last New Year's holiday, 25 people were killed in drunken-driving collisions statewide. Most were not wearing seatbelts.

More than 1,200 people were jailed on DUI charges on state-controlled roads in California.

This year over the Christmas holiday, 39 people died in collisions and 1,170 people were arrested for driving drunk within CHP jurisdiction.

Throughout California in 2010, police reported 291 deaths and more than 24,000 injuries in alcohol and drug-impaired crashes, according to the state Office of Traffic Safety.

Nationwide in December 2010, an average of 25 people died each day in impaired-driving crashes, totaling 2,597 deaths nationally in a month.

Throughout 2010, drunken-driver involved fatalities totaled 10,228, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
