Letter: Make government work for the people

Your informational Oct. 31 editorial "Save us from the reformers" slants the reformers as harmful which attacks a first volley of legislation which very well could take our country away from the banks and give it back to the people.

As you clearly explained, the banks are trying to make citizens who use credit cards pay fees which will continue CEO bonuses so there will be more people to add to the 310 billionaires America has already created through Wall Street practices that make the working poor poorer. The banks could easily absorb legislated loss in less profit.

America's wealth is generated by the people who do the work, not the people who control the money. If your editorial had encouraged everyone who is assessed an annual fee on their credit card to cancel that card telling the banks we don't need them the way they do business, we might then see legislation that makes it impossible for banks to lower credit ratings of people who have sense enough to be good stewards of their own money and not give it away to banks in punitive fees, interest and fines.

Government is the only way we common people have of making capitalism work for all of us, not just for big money people. Every time someone bashes government, they are bashing themselves.Making government work for all people is the right of all citizens, the privilege of living in a democracy.

When will we learn to use the gift our Founding Fathers gave us and work together for the good of all?
