Letter: Let's read more about local outdoors
I look forward to Thursdays edition of the Appeal sports page to see local sportsmen's, women's and kids' pictures doing what they love with their fish and game bagged or being released.
I have used the free service and my family and friends love seeing the pictures in the paper that might be the catch of a lifetime and telling others what is biting where, when and how. Having said all that, I have a question:
In this morning's paper (Jan. 29) there is a picture of Tim Gaither with a large white sturgeon in the neighborhood of 125 to 140 pounds, probably caught in the Snake River. Case in point, the entire caption was "Tim Gaither caught this fish in Idaho recently."
I know most pics sent must have had at least a dozen words accompanied describing the picture sent in only to have whomever was preparing the item for print omit most of the description for whatever reason, and cut it to 6 to 8 words or so, plus the picture. I know I have.
Why is it locals' pictures can't be accompanied by a 15-20 word story, if so submitted? I'd much rather see a half page of locals pics and stories than one cut and pasted about something in some other state about people I don't know or that has no impact on - or little interest - to the area anglers or hunters.
