WEEK TEN ROUNDUP: Pierce, Sutter clinch undefeated seasons
Bears, Huskies win league titles
Down 7-0 headed into the fourth quarter, the Pierce High football team rallied to score a pair of touchdowns and knocked off Willows 14-7 in Arbuckle on Friday.
With the victory, the Bears finished the regular season at a perfect 10-0 overall and as Sacramento Valley League champions.
Workhorse running back Andy Corona rushed 31 times for 133 yards and a score. His touchdown came on the first play of the fourth quarter, but the extra-point was missed and the Bears were still down 7-6.
With 4 minutes remaining, quarterback Nate Smith found Jesus Huerta from 22 yards out, and completed a 2-point conversion pass to Joe Howard.
Pierce's Oscar Sanchez recorded an interception and Robert Cross had a sack.
Live Oak 28, Durham 0
In Live Oak — Romario Acosta did his job on offense and defense and the Lions rolled Durham in their regular-season finale.
Acosta scooped up a fumble and returned it for a score, he rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns and threw for 142 yards and a touchdown to account for all of Live Oak's scoring.
Aaron Pamma caught the touchdown pass. He had 53 yards receiving and hauled in a 2-point conversion.
Andrew Lopez had an interception and fumble recovery, while Anthony Hernandez recovered two fumbles and Evan Tomales recovered another.
The Lions finished the regular season 7-3 overall and 3-2 in the SVL.
Sutter 63, Oroville 13
In Oroville — The Huskies captured their first Butte View League championship since 2009 with a rout of the Tigers at Harrison Stadium.
Trent Little threw for three touchdowns and rushed for another. Alex Ingram, Nathan Ahlers and Hayden Heilman all caught touchdown passes from Little.
Ahlers rushed for 70 yards and added two rushing touchdowns; he also had a kick return for a score. Ingram finished with 75 yards on the ground and a rushing touchdown.
Coach Ryan Reynolds said Ryan Staas, Philip Robledo, Garrett Wallace and Trevor Carr all played well defensively for the Huskies (10-0, 6-0).
Wheatland 55, Gridley 0
In Wheatland — The Pirates compiled more than 350 yards and converted six touchdowns on the ground to roll the Bulldogs in their regular-season finale.
With the victory, Wheatland finished 7-3 overall and 4-2 in the Butte View League. Meanwhile, Gridley wrapped up an 0-10 year.
Garrett White led the pack of rushers with 95 yards and a touchdown, while Austin Cooper finished with 94 yards and two scores.
Mark Campos (87 yards), Cameron Perkins (55) and Khalil Collier (31) each scored rushing touchdowns.
Jackson Hopking threw for two scores — a 47-yard strike to Joel Johnson and a 12-yard pass to Jordan Samson.
Seth Milington recorded three interceptions, while Garrett White and Lucas Taylor also had picks.
Marysville 41, West Campus 26
In Marysville — Francisco Garcia erupted for 216 yards and three touchdowns on just 12 carries rushing to help lift the Indians to a season-finale victory.
Daniel Duncan scored a pair of rushing touchdowns and finished with 76 yards on 14 carries for Marysville, which finished 3-7 overall and 3-2 in the Golden Empire League.
Jacob Garrett also scored a rushing touchdown.
Colusa 55, Williams 6
In Colusa — Conner Herrick and Andrew Rodriguez combined for nearly 300 yards on the ground and five touchdowns to help power the RedHawks past the Yellowjackets in a Mid-Valley League finale.
With the victory, Colusa finished the regular season at 5-5 overall and 3-2 in league, while Williams finished the year 2-8 and 1-4 in league.
Maxwell 33, University Prep 28
In Maxwell — The Panthers rallied when George Barajas threw a 55-yard touchdown pass to Luis Rolon with under a minute to play to secure a three-way tie for a Mountain Valley League crown.
Maxwell finished 7-3 overall and 4-1 in the Mountain Valley League and share the honors with Chester and Portola.
Barajas also had two rushing touchdowns, while Blake Vierra added another.
