Letter: Water plan foes a murky, scary bunch

I am sorry I didn’t have the courage to speak at the Aug. 29 special City Council meeting on Aug. 29 regarding the Hillcrest water issue. But I’ve watched those Murky Waters people and they are plain scary.

I watched them during the protest count at City Hall, lurking over the city staff. I watched them taking down the names of the protest withdrawals. I watched them stand and walk out of an earlier meeting en masse when the mayor tried to answer the questions and address the issues that they themselves had posed during public comment. I watched them flout decorum by applauding their people but booing, hissing and heckling not only the mayor but other citizen speakers with differing opinions. I watched their leader seize the microphone in the middle of a council session after public comment had been closed. I don’t know how the mayor and the council bear this appalling and offensive behavior. The murky people call it democracy at work. I call it dirty tricks. They want a free ride to surface water. I want surface water too, but I want to pay my fair share for this valuable city service. No welfare for the murky people.
