Wilson coaches South Lions
Fifteen Mid-Valley prep football players and one coach have been selected for the South team at the 29th annual Lions All-Star football game to be played July 29 in Anderson.
Maxwell coach Robert Wilson, who guided the Panthers to a 10-2 record and the Div. V championship game, will make his first appearance on the sidelines for the South.
Lindhurst, who completed its most successful season in school history with a 9-3 record and a first-round playoff victory, will send two players - explosive offensive weapon Robbie Brown and bruising fullback Terrance George.
Brown, the Appeal-Democrat's All-Area Offensive Player of the Year, gained 850 yards rushing on 107 carries with 10 touchdowns and caught 33 passes for 640 yards and nine touchdowns, splitting his time at receiver and running back.
George, at 5-foot-11 and 225 pounds, was primarily used as a blocking back, but gained 345 yards with five scores.
Sutter, who lost to Central Valley and North coach Matt Hunsaker in the Div. IV title game, will send two gifted players in linebacker Troy Robison and lineman Charlie Daddow.
Robison (6-1, 220) collected 186 tackles, and Daddow (6-3, 285) was a key reason why the Huskies rushed for nearly 3,000 yards.
Yuba City linebacker Nick Perrucci (5-9, 230), the heart of the Honkers' defense, finished with 110 tackles and should be a force.
The North team features four players from Central Valley's undefeated juggernaut, including Northern Section MVP running back Nick Leedy.
Remaining Mid-Valley players on the South team include Biggs quarterback Phillip Watson, Colusa receiver Jonathan Tyler, East Nicolaus receiver Trey Howard, Gridley offensive lineman Edgar Acosta, Live Oak offensive lineman Aaron DelaCerda, Marysville tight end David Olsen, Maxwell fullback Kyle
Cabral, Pierce receiver Martin Corona, Wheatland defensive back Nick Prather and Williams center Bobby Alvernaz.
The North won 27-24 last year and lead the series with a 15-13-1 record.
