PREP ROUNDUP: Marysville's Tarr leads Indians past Pirates

Sutter's Hoffman drops in triple-double

Holly Tarr picked up a double-double with 25 points and 12 rebounds to help the host Marysville High girls basketball team advance to today's championship game of the Pepsi Classic with a 60-38 victory over Wheatland on Friday.

Bayshta Aguila tacked on eight points for the Indians (6-1), who faces Bear River for the tourney title at 2:30 p.m.

Kassidy Heuvelhorst led Wheatland with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Morgan Calkins scored five points to go with four rebounds for the Pirates (3-4), who will face Live Oak at 1 p.m.

DOROTHY SPECK TOURNAMENT

River Valley 57, McQueen 43

In Davis — Taylor Massengale recorded 14 points, nine rebounds and a pair of blocks and the Falcons advanced to today's consolation game with a victory over McQueen High of Reno.

Aleqse Hawkins added 13 points, six rebounds and four steals, and Danielle Sopa dropped in eight points for River Valley (4-2), which will play Granite Bay today at 11:30 a.m.

VALLEY CHRISTIAN TOURNAMENT

Sutter 52, Valley Christian 50

In Roseville — The Huskies took down the host Lions behind a triple-double from Jaelyn Hoffman, who scored 16 points, pulled down 12 rebounds and dished out 10 assists.

Senior Erika Larsen was dominant in the paint with 22 points and 23 rebounds. Dana Ryan added six points for the Huskies (4-3), who will face Sacramento Waldorf for the tournament championship today.

DURHAM TOURNAMENT

Colusa 49, Hoopa Valley 44

In Durham — Emily Mobley scored 16 points and came down with 20 rebounds, Paige Townzen had 11 points and nine boards and the RedHawks slipped past the Warriors.

Mattie Myers finished with nine points and Yasmin Moreno added eight points for Colusa, which will play Orland today at 1:30 p.m.

PIERCE TOURNAMENT

Maxwell 60, Los Molinos 24

In Arbuckle — Ashley Azevedo scored a game-high 19 points and cleared six rebounds, Jenna Powell added 13 points and 11 boards and the Panthers cruised past the Bulldogs in the third-place game of the tournament.

Jessie Otterson added 12 points and 13 rebounds and Shelon Boyes swiped six steals in the win for Maxwell (5-1).

Faith Christian 52, Delta 10

In Yuba City — Shon Ritchie notched a triple-double with 18 points, 17 rebounds and 10 steals as the Lions cruised at C.A. Summy Gymnasium.

Moriah Maddalena also scored 18 points, pulled down seven boards and made four steals for Faith (3-2), which jumped out to a 22-6 lead in the first quarter.

BOYS BASKETBALL

RON PRITCHARD INVITATIONAL

Lindhurst 56, Live Oak 47

In Live Oak — Senior guard Devin Ward scored 26 points for the Blazers as they defeated the host Lions in second-round action at the Ron Pritchard Invitational.

Lindhurst (5-2) will face Corning in today's tournament championship game. Live Oak will square off with San Juan for third place.

Cedrick Thomas dropped in 15 points for the Blazers and also had nine rebounds with seven assists. Malik Payton added eight points and nine rebounds.

No information was reported by Live Oak.

NEVADA UNION TOURNAMENT

McQueen 59, River Valley 56

In Grass Valley — The Falcons were edged by McQueen of Reno in the semifinals of the Nevada Union Tournament.

Jordan Noall and Gurvir Gill both had double-doubles for the Falcons (2-4), who will play in the third-place game today at 2:10 p.m.

Noall scored 14 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. Gill dropped in 11 points along with 10 boards, while Stuart Bradley added 11 points.

MAXWELL TOURNAMENT

Maxwell 69, Faith Chr. 56

In Maxwell — The host Panthers took down the Lions in tournament play.

Micah Atkins led Faith Christian with 23 points, Justin Glen added nine points and Deep Bhatti scored seven points, with eight rebounds and five steals.

Faith (4-2) will face Pierce in the tournament finale at 5:30 p.m. today.

JV BOYS BASKETBALL

Yuba City 64, Bear River 61

In Rocklin — Parker Lowe had a big night with 29 points and 20 rebounds, and Angel Hernandez chipped in with 20 points of his own to lead the Honkers past the Bruins at the Rocklin Tournament.

John Horn added nine points to go with 11 assists for Yuba City (4-2).

JV GIRLS BASKETBALL

Colfax 41, Yuba City 20

In Oroville — Makenzie Lockhart scored nine points and Megan Lockhart scored five as the Honkers (3-1) fell to the Falcons at the Oroville Tournament.

Colusa 44, Orland 43

In Durham — Mollie Townzen dropped in 18 points to lead the RedHawks past the Trojans at the Durham Tournament.

Jasmine Savage scored 8 points and Sally Loeza added seven in the Colusa (5-1) victory.

FROSH BOYS BASKETBALL

Yuba City 57, Sutter 40

In Sutter — Matt Lara scored 16 points and Ryan Besso scored 10 to lead the Honkers (4-3) past the host Huskies at the Sutter Tournament.

Orland 51, River Valley 45

In Sutter — Jacob Farmer scored 11 points to lead the Falcons in loss to the Trojans at the Sutter Tournament.

Gurjeet Singh and Jagjot Takhar both scored eight points for RV (2-7).
