PREP ROUNDUP: RV boys win Mel Good Holiday Classic
Yuba City tops Monterey Trail; Sutter wins tourney
Deepak Leal scored 20 points and earned tournament MVP honors as he led the River Valley High boys basketball team to a 73-54 victory over West Campus to clinch the championship at the 48th annual Mel Good Holiday Classic.
Gurvir Gill added 16 points and Jordan Noall scored 10 points to go with nine rebounds. All-tournament selection Stuart Bradley scored eight points with nine rebounds.
Cris Lamas tacked on nine points and nine rebounds for the Falcons (6-7), who were the only team in the tournament to go a perfect 3-0.
Yuba City 49, Monterey Trail 47
Travis Blas led the Honkers with 16 points and earned an all-tournament selection as host Yuba City closed out the Mel Good with a solid win over the Division-I Mustangs.
Louis Mowers scored nine points and hauled in 11 rebounds, while Nathan Gillming totaled nine points and 11 rebounds.
Taylor Elkins dished out a team-high eight assists and scored six points for the Honkers (5-6).
LAS PLUMAS TOURNAMENT
Sutter 56, Oroville 35
In Oroville — Tournament MVP Garrett Stevenson scored 16 points as the Huskies took home the tournament championship in Oroville.
Austin Webster added eight points and Ty Prince was named to the all-tournament team for Sutter (5-5).
The Huskies' JV team beat host Las Plumas 47-35 behind a 22-point effort from Jordan Miller. Riley Leff added 14 points for Sutter (6-6), which took second in the tournament.
Both Leff and Miller were named to the all-tournament team.

NATOMAS TOURNAMENT
Foothill 57, Sutter 49
In Sacramento — Erika Larsen had a double-double with 12 points and 19 rebounds, but the Huskies fell short against Foothill of Sacramento in the final day of tourney play.
Nelly Romero also scored 12 points, Jaelyn Hoffman added 11 points and Destiny Stevenson rounded out Sutter's top scorers with eight points for the Huskies (9-5).
