PREP ROUNDUP: River Valley boys open TCC play with victory
The River Valley High boys basketball team opened its Tri-County Conference slate with a 78-65 victory over Pioneer in Woodland on Thursday night.
Every member of the Falcons scored, but it was T.J. Dove who led the way with 13 points and five steals.
Cris Lamas scored 11 points and Jordan Noall added 10. Stuart Bradley scored seven points, while he, Lamas and Noall pulled down seven rebounds apiece.
With the victory, the Falcons improved to 10-8 overall.
New Life Christian 66, Freedom Christian 44
In Olivehurst — Tyler Treat scored 19 points to go with 19 rebounds as the Crusaders cruised to a Northern Pacific Athletic Conference victory over Freedom.
Treat also blocked three shots. Lovedeep Singh picked up a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Thomas Marquette dropped in 11 points and tallied four boards.
Sullivan Guy and Kobe Bancroft each scored 10 for the Crusaders (11-2, 2-0), who continue NPAC play at Trinity Prep tonight.
Buckingham Charter 83, Faith Christian 62
In Vacaville — Justin Glen dropped in 23 points for the Lions as they dropped a Sacramento Metropolitan Athletic League matchup to the Knights.
Deep Bhatti had a double-double for Faith (12-5, 1-1) with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
New Life Christian 62, Freedom Christian 24
In Olivehurst — Elicia Villafranco led the Crusaders with her 26-point effort as New Life (11-2, 2-0) routed Freedom Christian in an NPAC contest.
Rachel Whiteley had a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds. Haley Moody had 10 points, Hannah Hruska tallied six points and Kayleigh Ramirez pulled down 17 rebounds.
Colusa 51, Biggs 25
In Colusa — Emily Mobley scored 14 points, grabbed 17 rebounds and swiped three steals, and the RedHawks opened Mid-Valley League play with a victory.
Savannah Miller added 11 points, while Teale Stacey and Paige Townzen each scored eight points. Townzen also had seven rebounds and five assists, and Stacey collected five rebounds and corralled three steals.
BOYS SOCCER
Live Oak 6, Colusa 0
In Live Oak — Six different players scored a goal for the Lions as they cruised past Colusa in a nonleague game.
Sal Vargas, Jose Cuellar, Pedro Valencia, Edgar Diaz, Jose Vargas and Marcos Valencia each scored a goal.
Christian Leos and Diaz split time at goal to record the shutout and the Lions improved to 6-1-1 overall.
Colusa coach Dan Kiely credited forwards Adrian Garcia and Felipe Granados with solid play. Goalkeeper Fernando Amador made eight saves for the RedHawks (4-7-1).
Gridley 6, Winters 2
In Gridley — Six different Bulldogs found the back of the net in a Butte View League win over the Warriors.
Ernesto Orozco, Juan Velasquez, Alfonso Hernandez, Rodrigo Olmos, David Gomez and Efrain Aguilar all scored for Gridley.
Alfonso Hernandez, Rolando Acosta and Juan Velasquez each had an assist for the Bulldogs (8-6-2, 4-1-1).
WRESTLING
Lindhurst 46 Golden Sierra 18
In Garden Valley — The Blazers picked up three victories by pin and another three forfeits as they rolled the host Grizzlies.
Jesus Yanez won by pin in the 138-pound division. Rigo Cole (145) and Anthony Kinnard (154) both won by pin as well.
Edgar Rivera (170) and Justin Martinez (285) both won by decision and Kevin Travis (182) picked up a major-decision win.
Lindhurst 51 Highlands 11
In Garden Valley — The Blazers dominated the Scots with six pins and three forfeits.
Thongsai Tanadabouth (113), Jake Hughes (120), Christy Lor (126), Michael Hernandez (154), Jessie Cain (170) and Justin Martinez (285) all won by pin.
Armante Gonzales picked up a 9-2 decision victory.
JV BOYS BASKETBALL
Yuba City 72, Inderkum 58
In Yuba City — Angel Hernandez scored 29 points and John Horn had 10 points and dished out 10 assists as the Honkers cruised in their first TCC game.
Parker Lowe scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for Yuba City (8-9).
FROSH BOYS BASKETBALL
River Valley 69, Pioneer 62
In Woodland — Jagjot Takhar scored 29 points to lead the Falcons past the Patriots in both teams' TCC opener.
Sukhman Janda added 12 points, Clarence Pierson put up 10 points and Jacob Farmer tacked on nine points to pace the Falcons (4-13).
Yuba City 46, Inderkum 41
In Yuba City — Ryan Besso scored 20 points and pulled down nine rebounds and the Honkers edged Inderkum in their TCC opener.
Tanner Eaton added nine points and Daniel Claydon had six points and 16 rebounds for the Honkers (10-10).
