PREP ROUNDUP: River Valley girls clinch at least share of TCC title

YC girls win third straight'

Sarah Brennan recorded 10 points and seven rebounds, Jagreet Gosal scored 10 points and the River Valley High girls basketball team clinched at least a share of the Tri-County Conference title with a 58-18 blowout victory in Woodland on Thursday night.

Amrita Dale and Aleqse Hawkins added eight points apiece for the Falcons, who improved to 18-7 overall and 8-1 in the TCC with the win. Taylor Massengale finished with six points, six rebounds and three blocks, and Jackie Koch chipped in with six points.

River Valley entered the night as the No. 7 team in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III power rankings, which were released Monday. The top eight teams host a first-round playoff game.

The Falcons can win their first ever outright TCC title with a victory against cross-town rival Yuba City on Monday night.

Yuba City 60, Natomas 47

In Yuba City — The Honkers won their third game in a row behind a 19-point effort from Tiffany Friend.

Money Kaur added 15 points and Destiny Fleenor dropped in 12 points for the Honkers, who improved to 8-14 overall and 5-4 in TCC action.

Yuba City closes out its season on Monday night at River Valley.

BOYS SOCCER

Gridley 6, Wheatland 0

In Gridley — The Bulldogs blanked the Pirates in the Butte View League finale for both teams.

Juan Villalpando and Alfonso Hernandez each scored two goals, while Ivan Tinoco and Ernesto Orozco both added a score. Jose Velasquez picked up an assist for Gridley (12-8-2, 8-3-1).

Wheatland finished the year 1-14 overall and 1-11 in BVL play.

Live Oak 2, Willows 2

In Live Oak — With the Sacramento Valley League-I championship already clinched, the Lions played the Honkers to a draw in both teams' regular season finale.

Jose Vargas scored Live Oak's first goal on a header, with Ricky Caratachea picking up the assist on a crossing pass. Cristian Leos delivered the other goal for the Lions (10-1-5, 5-0-4).

Live Oak coach Mike Owen said the Lions could be either a No. 2 or No. 3 seed in the Northern Section Division II playoffs.

The brackets will be released on Saturday.

Orland 4, Sutter 0

In Sutter — The Trojans shut out the Huskies to end BVL play and will likely earn the No. 1 seed in the Division II playoff bracket.

Sutter (7-9-1, 5-6-1) locked up a playoff spot as well.

Colusa 8, Mercy 0

In Colusa — Adrian Garcia scored four goals and Felipe Granados, Alfonso Ruiz, Zach Vaillancourt and Diego Jimenez added a goal each to lift the RedHawks to an easy SVL-II victory over the Warriors.

Garcia also notched a pair of assists, Gustavo Sanchez assisted on four more and Tony Rico added an assist as well in the win for Colusa (7-9-3, 4-6-2).

Jose Santana, Fernando Morales, Luis Padilla and Pedro Lopez were each credited with strong defensive play by coach Dan Kiely.
