Yuba City police nab fleeing probationer
A Yuba City man wanted for violating his probation tried to escape arrest Tuesday by running through two apartments on B Street.
Joshua Cape jumped out of a back window of a ground-level apartment just before 11 a.m., but was quickly taken into custody, Yuba City police Lt. Lincoln Eden said.
“We established a good perimeter and he basically ran right into it,” Eden said.
Cape, 26, was wanted for violating his probation in connection with a prior methamphetamine conviction in 2011, police said.
Officers spotted Cape walking in the 1100 block of B Street and bolted when police tried to detain him. Cape dashed through apartments in the Whitefront and Colonial Arms complexes, police said.
Nobody was hurt.
Backup was called for and police surrounded two blocks of B Street and were searching the area when Cape was captured.
Cape was arrested behind a home in the 1200 block of B Street, near Whyler Avenue.
“He ran, but once he had no place to go, he gave up peacefully,” Eden said. “There was no violence towards officers, he just tried to flee on foot.”
Cape has been arrested numerous times in Sutter County. He convicted of petty theft with prior convictions in 2009 and possession of methamphetamine in 2011. He was sentenced to three years probation in both cases, according to the Sutter County District Attorney’s Office.
He was booked into the Sutter County Jail without bail on the probation violation.
Eden said police would seek an additional misdemeanor count of delaying peace officers.
