Bicyclist hit in Yuba City, driver cited for marijuana

A woman riding a bicycle was hospitalized Tuesday morning after she was struck by a truck in Yuba City.

The victim, whose name was not immediately available, was taken by helicopter to Sutter Memorial Hospital with undetermined injuries.

“You could hear her screaming on the ground, it didn’t look good,” said Aamer Kahn, an employee of Pacific Petroleum gas station.

The crash occurred around 8:25 a.m. at the corner of Market Street and Queens Avenue, across from the gas station.

Yuba City police Sgt. Michael Green said the driver of a white Ford Ranger struck the bicyclist as he was driving south on from Market Street onto Queens Avenue.

It was not immediately clear if the woman was riding with the flow of traffic or may have possibly swerved out in front of the truck.

The driver, Michael Zdobnikow, 38, of Yuba City, was cited for possession of a small amount of marijuana, but was not arrested. Police said it was not clear if the marijuana played any role in the crash and said Zdobnikow did not appear to be under the influence.

The woman was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, police said.

Zdobnikow’s truck sustained damage to the front passenger-side bumper. The rear tire of the bicycle was mangled.
