Two juveniles arrested in fatal shooting of YC teen

Two juveniles were arrested Tuesday as accessories in the fatal shooting of Cain Castro, according to Yuba City police.

Investigators are still looking for a motive, but believe Sunday's shooting may be related to ongoing feuds and retaliatory violence between the Norteños and Sureños street gangs.

The suspects were booked into a local juvenile detention center. Their names were withheld because of their ages.

"Officers based the arrest of the juveniles on leads and investigative follow-up gathered over the past two days, which allege the juveniles aided the principal suspect(s) in the recent shooting," police said.

The July 5 shooting death of Jose Zambrano in Yuba City is not connected to Castro's death, police said.

Police believe Castro, 18, was shot in the upper body Sunday morning near Bridge Street and Oji Way.

Forty-five minutes later, officers responded to a Sutter County residence where they found Castro and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Castro was with two acquaintances when he was shot, police said. It is believed that the shots were fired from another vehicle.

Police are urging anyone with information to call 822-4600 or the tip line at 822-4848.
