Letter: Community can't lose postal processing site

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

The Postal Service is conducting a study which could result in the possible closure of the Marysville mail processing facility. As a member of this community, I feel it is necessary to voice my opinion: The Marysville processing facility cannot be closed.

In 2006, the Postal Service consolidated the outgoing mail operations into the Sacramento postal facility. The result was a delay in service to the 959 zip code area. Another concern is that the workers at the Marysville processing center may have to move up to 500 miles to keep a job with the postal service. This will have a negative impact on the businesses in this area who will lose a protion of their profits, as well as impacting the postal families who live and pay taxes here. Yuba County has one of the highest unemployment rates in California and we cannot afford to lose approximately 200 good paying jobs.

I encourage community involvement on this issue. Circulate a petition, tell other communtiy members to let the postal service know that we do not want the Marysville processing center closed or our mail sent to Sacramento. We cannot lose 200 community members who are a large contributor to us economically and otherwise. We must speak out or we may lose a valuable asset to our community.

What should the board of trustees do with the proposed $29,282 pay raise for Chancellor Nicki Harrington?
Rescind it. Now is not the time.
Give it to her. She should be compensated fairly and competitively.
