Emotional voting
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The next presidential election is still 20 months away. Yet already, many have tossed their hats in the ring for the grand prize of president of the United States. Now we also have letters to the editor endorsing presidential candidates?
I can accept both of these things. However, when someone endorses a political candidate, it should be for the right reasons. The letter to the editor, Feb. 7, endorsing Hillary Clinton provides no substance, or gives no actual reasons to endorse Clinton.
“Hillary is charming, well educated and extremely intelligent.” That attribute can apply to many people, but it hardly qualifies them to be president. “The fact that she’s a woman is no reason to think she is not as qualified as any man to be president.” I don’t think it wise that anyone vote for a candidate for president solely based upon his or her gender. Finally, being able to properly pronounce a word is hardly sufficient reason to elect a president.
People need to put aside their emotional reasons for voting for presidential candidates. They need to get out a copy of the Constitution and see what authorities it grants the president, and Congress as well, and then see what the candidates are saying about their plans for America. If they cannot govern according to the powers given to them by that document, they do not deserve to hold that office.
