Since You Asked: Sam's Club renovation expected to be done by August

Q: Sam's Club in Yuba City has been under construction since, it seems, the beginning of the year, and not much as been added to the side of the building near Walton Avenue. How longer before the additions are wrapped up?

A: Wet weather earlier this year has slowed the project down a bit, but construction is still under way, project superintendent Randy Craven said.

Construction got under way in early January and is expected to be completed in August.

"There's a lot of work going into it," Craven said late last week. "It's a full-blown remodel with new entry and exits, new equipment and shelving. It's really a lot of work."

Major construction work has carried on while the store has remained open. Working around customers and employees has created another set of challenges for the project and further slowed progress.

Still, Craven said, the project is on track and has already been beneficial to the area, employing as many as 50 people per day at times.

Moorefield Construction of Sacramento is the company tasked with the building project.

Officials declined to disclose the project's price tag.

Craven said the work should be finished by early August, and a grand opening will be scheduled some time in mid- to late August.
