Anyone concerned about the Transmission Agency of Northern California and Western Area Power Administration transmission line project should read Senate Bill 539 sponsored by Harry Reid.

This bill would take the public pressure off TANC because this project would become a federal- and state-mandated project. It gives President Obama the power to designate national renewable energy zones and green transmission in the interest of national security and global warming challenges. The area around Lassen would probably become one of these zones, giving the TANC project green transmission status.

It gives a commission power to take any necessary actions to address any identified obstacles to investment, siting and construction of projects identfied as needed. It gives more power to the transmission provider to take away your land with eminent domain for a right-of-way. If there is a lack of private funding for the project the federal governmemt (taxpayers) will fund the project.
