Letter: Background checks necessary
Assembly Bill 22 prohibits employers from doing background checks on prospective employees and from obtaining a credit report as part of an informed hiring decision. That to me makes no sense. If I open my own business and need to hire people I don't know, I want to have some form of security that they aren't criminals. Now, I really have no way to do that.
I think we should have the right to check prospective employees backgrounds. It is also for safety - like in schools and hospitals or even your own safety with your own business. It is also important to see what prospective employees' credit report is - if you want to see how they take care of their possessions or if they pay their bills.
Basically, if you want to see if they are responsible and someone you can rely on to do a good job. This bill takes that right away from us. Maybe Assemblyman Mendoza should re-evaluate putting business in harms way.
