Letter: Occupy does damage
There is no denying that the Occupy movements are controversial. The "99%" show a classic example of populism by claiming that corporate giants are not paying their share of taxes. The protesters believe in a more balanced economic structure, where people pay taxes fairly.
One of the main goals of the protesters is to balance the government by undoing corporate influence. By "occupying" various cities, they hope to show their stance on social and economic inequality.
People against the movement say that the protesters have little organization, partake in various crimes including sexual assault and have an incoherent message.
Others say that the balanced economic system that the protesters believe in borderlines on the economic systems in various communist countries.
I feel that, although the protesters are getting considerable amounts of attention, they are not accomplishing much. While I do understand that corporate influence in our government is a big deal, standing around and costing taxpayers money is not the answer. All the protesters are doing, in my opinion, is causing further instability in our economy, which is already fragile.
