PREP ROUNDUP: Yuba City girls hoops roll Rio Linda

Tiffany Friend scored 21 points and the Yuba City High girls basketball team topped Rio Linda 49-39 at the Lincoln Tournament on Thursday.

Alisha Aery added 14 points in the victory for Yuba City, which improved to 3-5 overall.

The Honkers will play Lincoln tonight at 8 p.m.

Sutter 61, Pioneer 40

In Sutter — Erika Larsen had another big game with 18 points and 22 rebounds as the Huskies rolled the Patriots in nonleague play.

Jaelyn Hoffman added 15 points and seven assists for Sutter (7-3). Destiny Stevenson tacked on 13 points and Shelby Hill scored seven.

New Life Christian 32, Paradise Adv. 23

In Olivehurst — The Crusaders continue to impress despite suiting up just six players this season.

Elicia Villafranco finished with 14 points, Rachel Whiteley scored 10 points and Hannah Hruska grabbed 11 rebounds in the victory over the Cougars. Haley Moody had six steals for New Life (6-1).

HAMILTON TOURNAMENT

Las Plumas 45, Colusa 43

In Hamilton — Emily Mobley finished with 14 points, 24 rebounds and two blocks to help the RedHawks hang with Las Plumas.

Mattie Myers scored 10 points for Colusa (4-5), while Paige Townzen added seven points, five rebounds and three steals.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Faith Christian 77, Global Youth 63

In Yuba City — Justin Glen led the Lions with 36 points, nine rebounds and five steals as they improved to 7-2 overall.

Micah Atkins scored 22 points in the nonleague victory over Global Youth.

Paradise Adventist 62, New Life Christian 56

In Olivehurst — Lovedeep Singh shot 9 of 11 from the field and scored 19 points as the Crusaders fell at home to the Cougars.

Thomas Marquette scored 10 points with three 3-pointers and Kobe Bancroft scored nine points and dished out four assists.

Chase Smotherman added eight points on two 3s along with four assists and a steal for New Life (3-4).

GEORGIA RACZNIACK TOURNAMENT

Gridley 63, Maxwell 44

In Colusa — Leo Espinoza finished with 16 points, Shobi Khan added 10 points and the Bulldogs ran away with a victory over Maxwell.

Emery Haddy had nine points and Tyler Abrego recorded eight for Gridley (6-4).

Sutter 5, Wheatland 2

At Wheatland — Brad Bonnenfant scored three goals with an assist, and Greg Martinez and Franklin Tarke added a goal each to power the Huskies to a Butte View League victory over the Pirates.

Trent Little, Mat Sanders and Bruno Flores also had assists for Sutter (3-3-1, 2-0-1), while Auston Harris and Collin Olmstead played well at midfield, coach Tim Danna said.

Martin Elizalde notched a goal and an assist, Tony Landaverde scored a goal and Omar Valeriano added an assist to lead the way for the Pirates (0-6, 0-3).

Esparto 3, Colusa 0

In Colusa — The RedHawks held off the Spartans for 55 minutes, before running out of gas and allowing three late goals in a Mid-Valley League match.

Colusa coach Dan Kiely credited Adrian Garcia, Felipe Granados, Jose Santana and Fernando Amador, who finished with 16 saves, for good performances.

With the loss, the RedHawks dropped to 3-3-1 overall and 1-2 in league.

Sutter 2, Wheatland 0

In Wheatland — Erika Linch and Jayden Garcia each recorded a goal and an assist and the Huskies shut out the Pirates in a BVL match.

Devan Reische had five saves and Martina Damboriena was credited with quality play on defense for Sutter (6-1, 3-0).

JV BOYS BASKETBALL

River Valley 72, Marysville 42

In Yuba City — The Falcons cruised past the Indians (2-7) at the JV Twin Cities Shootout thanks to 20 points from Karanvir Pakhar.

Karlan Parks added 10 points for River Valley (4-5), while Matthew Butcher led Marysville with 22 points.

Yuba City 60, Lindhurst 23

In Yuba City — The Honkers routed the Blazers with Parker Lowe's 12 points and 11 points from Angel Hernandez.

John Horn rounded out the top scorers for Yuba City (5-4) with seven points.

Sutter 37, Pioneer 33

In Sutter — Nicole McBane scored nine points, Taylor Ford added eight more and the Huskies edged the Patriots.

Kendall Noraas added six points for Sutter (4-3).

In Oroville — Matt Lara led Yuba City (5-6) with 16 points, but the Honkers came up short to open the Oroville Tournament.

Ryan Besso finished with eight points for Yuba City.
