PREP ROUNDUP: Hawkins delivers game-winner for Falcons
River Valley tops Inderkum for first time
With 6 seconds remaining and the game tied at 57, Aleqse Hawkins drove along the sideline and into the lane to get a layup off to beat the buzzer on Friday night.
And just like that, for the first time in program history, the River Valley High girls basketball team defeated Inderkum.
The 59-57 victory at Falcon Gymnasium catapulted the Falcons (13-6 overall) to the top of the Tri-County Conference standings with a perfect 3-0 record.
"The league championship goes through our house now," said River Valley coach Mike Gainok.
Hawkins finished with 19 points, and managed to score after Taylor Massengale corralled a steal at the other end of the floor, which allowed River Valley to call a quick timeout.
Massengale finished with eight points, 10 rebounds, eight blocks and five steals, while Amrita Dale recorded 13 points and three steals for the Falcons.
Woodland 65, Yuba City 42
In Woodland — Alisha Aery scored 11 points and Tiffany Friend added nine, but it wasn't enough for the Honkers in TCC action.
With the loss, Yuba City dropped to 4-12 overall and 1-2 in conference.
Winters 42, Wheatland 32
In Winters — Kiki Sappa finished with eight points and 15 rebounds for the Pirates in a Butte View League loss to the Warriors.
Halen Mariano chipped in with seven points and Renae Lichtenberger had six points and 13 rebounds for Wheatland (9-11, 0-2).
West Campus 65, Marysville 29
In Marysville — Holly Tarr finished with eight points and 10 rebounds, and Bayshta Aguila scored eight points as the Indians (9-12, 1-3) fell to the Warriors in Golden Empire League play.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Lindhurst 59, Dixon 56
In Dixon — Cedrick Thomas turned in another solid all-around performance with 20 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and four steals to lead the Blazers to a GEL victory over the Rams.
Devin Ward added 13 points and Alex Yang finished with 10 for Lindhurst, which upped its record to 11-10 overall and 2-2 in the GEL with the win.
Faith Christian 65, Sacramento Country Day 37
In Sacramento — Micah Atkins tallied 16 points and six steals, and Deep Bhatti chipped in with 15 points and 12 rebounds to propel the Lions to a Sacramento Metropolitan Athletic League win on the road.
Drew LeBlanc added 11 points to help Faith improve to 15-5 overall and 4-1 in SMAL play.
East Nicolaus 49, Durham 42
In Nicolaus — Drew Orr dropped in a team-high 18 points to propel the Spartans to a Sacramento Valley League victory over the Trojans at home.
Adam Driver and Francisco Silvas finished with 10 points apiece in the win for East Nicolaus (6-9, 3-2).
JV BOYS BASKETBALL
West Campus 69, Marysville 37
In Marysville — Matthew Butcher was a bright spot for the Indians in a GEL loss as he scored 19 points.
Casey Carlsen also contributed heavily with nine points, 14 rebounds, six steals and four blocks.
Inderkum 62, River Valley 44
In Sacramento — Rohin Basi tallied 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Sam Van Dusen came down with 11 boards as the Falcons (8-7, 2-1) fell to the Tigers in a TCC contest on Thursday night.
JV GIRLS BASKETBALL
Yuba City 46, Woodland 36
In Woodland — Megan Lockhart and Jordan Coxe each scored 13 points and the Honkers (1-2) picked up their first TCC win.
Inderkum 48, River Valley 39
In Yuba City — Meaghan Bains scored a team-high 17 points, but the Falcons (9-6, 1-1) fell to the Tigers in TCC action.
West Campus 39, Marysville 27
In Marysville — Mikayla Anderson recorded 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Morgan Lake added five points and five boards as the Indians (8-12, 2-2) dropped their GEL contest.
FROSH GIRLS BASKETBALL
River Valley 52, Inderkum 5
In Yuba City — Trinity Norris scored 13 points, Harleen Sandhu and Shauna Basra each added nine and the Falcons rolled Inderkum in TCC action.
The win improves River Valley's record to 12-3 and 2-0.
