River Valley girls capture first-ever TCC title
The River Valley High girls basketball team had already clinched at least a share of the Tri-County Conference championship before Monday's game against rival Yuba City — a victory only sweetened things.
The Falcons blew by the Honkers 55-17 at home to complete the two teams' regular-season slate, and more importantly, to give River Valley its first TCC title in the program's history after finishing runner-up last season.
"Well, we had 10 seniors, and they did a great job this season," said coach Mike Gainok.
The Falcons finished the season 19-7 overall and 9-1 in the conference, and will await the Sac-Joaquin Section seedings meeting to see if they'll host a playoff game.
Sarah Brennan led the Falcons with 10 points. She also had four rebounds and three blocks. Taylor Massengale had nine points, seven rebounds, three assists and three blocks.
Amrita Dale chipped in nine points and Aleqse Hawkins finished with eight points, five assists and four steals.
Eleven of 14 players scored for the Falcons. The Honkers finished their season 8-16 overall and 5-5 in league.
In the JV game, the Falcons just got by the Honkers by a score of 36-31. Jordan Coxe led the Honkers with 10 points. No information was reported by the Falcons.
In the frosh game, Trinity Norris dropped 23 points to help power the Falcons past Yuba City by a score of 46-21.
Harleen Sandhu had 10 points.
The Falcons had already clinched the JV TCC title coming into the game.
The victory allowed the Falcons to finish the season undefeated in conference play with a 6-0 record. They finished 16-3 overall.
