Colusa's Burgess makes cut at Open
Ric Burgess, a club pro at Colusa Golf & Country Club, shot a 77 Tuesday in the second round of the three-day Northern California Golf Association Senior Open Championship played at Diablo Grande Resort in Patterson.
Burgess started the second round of the $15,000 tournament four strokes back of the leader, but with a second-round score of 149, he sits in a tie with four others at 19th.
Jeff Burda of Modesto, who carded an opening-round 70, two back of the leader, fired a 65 and leads the field at 9-under-par 135. Burda has a four-stroke lead over James Hill of Tulare.
Opening-round leader Casey Boyns of Pacific Grove followed his 68 with a 72 and sits in third place heading into the final round.
Burgess won the NorCal PGA Senior Club Professional and Stroke Play Championship last month at Stockton Golf & Country Club.
