LOCAL ROUNDUP: Yuba volleyball improves to 15-1

The Yuba College volleyball team continued its tear through the Bay Valley Conference on Friday.

The 49ers cruised past Mendocino 25-6, 25-7, 25-9 at Yuba College to improve to 15-1 overall and 8-0 in conference.

Katie Reiland led the 49ers with nine kills, while Katie Olson and Angela DeHaan each recorded six kills and two aces.

Brenna McDonald had three kills and two aces, Shaila Gidel dropped four aces and Sam Foster dished out 27 assists and five aces.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

49ers 2, Los Medanos 1

In Linda — The 49ers picked up their first victory of the season thanks to a pair of second-half goals.

Shea Galasphey scored on a penalty kick then assisted Yesenia Zarate for Yuba's second goal.

With the win, the 49ers improved to 1-6-3 overall and 1-2-2 in the BVC.

Merritt 4, 49ers 1

In Linda — Michael Olisea scored on an assist from Dario Teyes, but that was all the damage the 49ers could muster in a BVC loss.

With the setback, Yuba slipped to 4-7-2 overall and 1-4-1 in conference.

HIGH SCHOOL

VOLLEYBALL

Marysville 3, Dixon 2

In Dixon — Reyna Williamson tallied nine kills, seven assists and a block and Mattyann Townsend added eight kills, three blocks and a pair of aces as the Indians edged the Rams in five sets to earn a Golden Empire League victory on Thursday night.

Game scores were 25-6, 25-18, 19-25, 26-28 and 15-12.

Morgan Cowan-Fayter had seven kills, five aces and three digs and Taylor Ferrari notched 18 assists, six aces and three digs for Marysville, which improved to 10-8 overall and 6-4 in GEL play.

The Indians also won the JV match 19-25, 25-22, 15-11.

Savanna Harris had seven kills, five assists and three aces, Kelsey Collins posted nine assists and two aces, and Jenny Garrison added three kills in the victory.

Marysville lost the freshman match 25-10, 25-16.

GIRLS TENNIS

Yuba City 8, Woodland 1

In Woodland — The Honkers continued their romp through the Tri-County Conference with a solid victory over the Wolves on Thursday as all victors won in straight sets.

Hannah Poukish (6-3, 6-0), Sophie Poukish (6-1, 6-2), Amanda Perry (6-0, 6-0), Kristen Kent (6-1, 6-1), Anisha Gill (6-0, 6-0) and Lunden Fletcher (6-2, 7-5) picked up the wins in singles.

Kaitlyn Lovell teamed with Julia Wankmueller for a 6-0, 6-0 victory, while Marissa Townsend partnered with Jora Martin to win 6-3, 6-2.

Yuba City (10-0, 8-0) ends conference play next week with Natomas and River Valley.

JV FOOTBALL

Sutter 33, Gridley 7

In Gridley — Brayden Hungrige rushed for four touchdowns and the Huskies improved to 7-0 on the season and 4-0 in Butte View League play with a win over the Bulldogs.

Hungrige scored on runs of 31 yards, 10, 2 and 1, while Cobe Willis scampered into the end zone from 70 yards out.

Caylin Lang and Darren Mahan each recovered a fumble.

Lindhurst 28, Dixon 14

In Dixon — Jesus Yanez combined to pass and rush for nearly 100 yards and scored three touchdowns and the Blazers improved to 2-0 in the Golden Empire League.

Elijah Smith rushed for 61 yards and caught three passes for 102 yards and a touchdown, while Jaden Smith passed for 116 yards and a touchdown to help the Blazers improve to 3-3 overall.

FROSH FOOTBALL

Sutter 48, Foresthill JV 6

In Sutter — The Huskies dominated in every aspect of the game on Thursday night to improve to 5-2 this season.

Clay Carter found Dylan Simard for a 59-yard touchdown catch, while Daniel Hale and Ross Applegarth each scored on 1-yard plunges.

Ivan DeWitt scored on a 2-yard run, while Jacob Gildea rushed for a 25-yard touchdown.

Tanner Baroni returned an interception 48 yards for a touchdown and Brendon Nelson returned another pick 35 yards for a score for the Huskies.

Yuba City 46, Pioneer 14

In Yuba City — Alex Rowe completed 8 of 10 passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns and the Honkers rolled the Patriots in a TCC contest on Thursday night.

Rowe also added a 6-yard run, while Issac Torres rushed for a score from 16 yards out. Torres also returned a kickoff 95 yards for a score.

Johnathon Rodriguez had six carries for 112 yards, including a 73-yard touchdown for the Honkers (6-2, 1-1).

Joey Goebel had two touchdown receptions for 14 yards and 67 yards, while Sam Stevens, Mikey Passaglia and Baljinder Kang were credited for their strong defensive efforts.

JV VOLLEYBALL

Faith takes tourney in Chico

In Chico — The Lions went 4-1 at the Champion Christian Tournament to take first overall.

Emily Wolfgram was named MVP for Faith Christian (12-2, 4-0), while teammates Alex Gaither and Abby Maddalena were both named all-tourney.
