Police arrest fugitive hiding under couch cushion in Linda

A repeat fugitive from Olivehurst, who was arrested in October crying in a trash bin, was captured again on Friday, this time hiding under a couch cushion outside a Linda home, the Yuba County Sheriff's Department said.

Daniel Aaron Rowden was arrested Friday after a short foot chase that started when Rowden was spotted driving a stolen car, Sgt. Joe Million said.

Rowden, 25, was booked into the Yuba County Jail on multiple warrants ranging from unlawful sex with a minor to carjacking and drug possession, according to booking reports.

Deputies on Friday added allegations of vehicle theft, a felony, and misdemeanor evasion to Rowden's growing list of charges.

"He has a handful of them, now," Million noted.

Authorities spotted Rowden around 9:30 a.m., driving a 1993 Honda Civic that was later confirmed stolen, Million said.

Rowden ditched the vehicle and was found a short time later concealed beneath a couch cushion outside a home near Lowe Avenue and Hammonton-Smartsville Road.

Rowden was arrested Oct. 20 on the carjacking charge after a pursuit that ended when deputies found him hiding and crying in an Olivehurst trash bin.

He was arrested again Nov. 7 when deputies said they discovered Rowden was involved in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl. During the second arrest, investigators also found small quantities of methamphetamine and heroin.

Rowden was released on a $41,000 bail bond.

He then failed to appear at a Dec. 26 hearing in Yuba County Superior Court. Judge Stephen W. Berrier issued a warrant for his arrest.

The Olivehurst man has an extensive petty criminal history in Yuba County, mostly involving drug and theft charges.

He has been on parole since 2008 after pleading no contest to stealing a car, according to court records.

Rowden was still in custody Saturday night on $180,000 bail.
