Yuba College baseball suffers first loss

After a back-and-forth game that saw the Yuba College baseball team battle back from a pair of deficits, the 49ers tasted defeat for the first time this season after a 10-inning, 7-6 loss to American River at Appeal-Democrat Park in Marysville on Tuesday afternoon.

Yuba (3-1) trailed 2-0 in the first before an Ethan McGill solo home run sparked a five-run fourth inning, allowing the 49ers to take the lead.

The Beavers answered with a four-run seventh to take a 6-5 lead, but once again Yuba battled back by scoring a run in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings. American River finally won the game with a single run in the top of the 10th.

"It was a good collective effort of hits and we did a good job of coming back," said Yuba coach Brian Baisch. "The guys did a really good job of battling. It was nice to see a team like American River celebrate after beating us."

Dustyn Macaluso went 3 for 6 and McGill finished 2 for 3 with a pair of walks for the 49ers, who out-hit American River 12-9 in the game. Christian Divelbiss and Dallas Cummings both went 2 for 4, and Tyler Kreditor drove in a pair of runs in the loss.
