Business Briefs: Element Salon stylists attend SF hair event

Tuesday Reece, stylist and owner of Element Salon in Yuba City, recently attended a hairstyling event and class in San Francisco featuring celebrity stylist Nick Arrojo.

Arrojo is best known from TLC's "What Not to Wear."

Class topics included advanced hair color, haircutting and styling techniques.

Element Salon hairstylists Neil Gibbs, Kristen Mathews and Connie Bustos attended the event with Reece, who is also a color educator for Goldwell hair care.

Reece has been a stylist for more than eight years and a salon owner for the past year.

Element Salon is located at 1538 Poole Blvd., Suite Y.

Y-S Chamber planning over-50 event for new owners

The Yuba-Sutter Chamber of Commerce is planning a Senior Entrepreneur Resource breakfast on Oct. 2 for new business owners over 50 years in age.

Sutter Community Bank offering mobile service

Mobile banking in the Yuba-Sutter area is available through Sutter Community Bank, one of the first local community banks offering the service.

The bank's customers can enroll on its Mobile Connect online banking portal and access their accounts from a web-enabled phone, smartphone, Blackberry, Android, iPhone or iPad.

The free service includes free technical support from Sutter Community Bank staff.

Cardiothoracic surgeon Calhoun joins Rideout Health

Cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Royce F. Calhoun II has joined Rideout Health, working with Rideout Regional Medical Center and the Rideout Cancer Center in Marysville.

He was with the University of California, Davis, for the past eight years, serving as associate professor of surgery and surgical director of the UCD Medical Center's thoracic oncology program.

He is continuing his clinical trials and lung cancer research at Rideout.

Calhoun is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and was guest surgeon at an international conference in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 2008.

Anti-harassment, ADA class set

Reservations are being accepted for the Windmills/American Disability Act and sexual harassment prevention certification program set Oct. 19 at the Peach Tree Golf & Country Club in Linda.

The program is hosted by the Yuba/Sutter/Colusa Employer Advisory Council and the state Employment Development Department.

The program is slated from 8 a.m. to noon, with check-in and breakfast at 7:30 a.m., at 2043 Simpson-Dantoni Road.

Admission is $45 for advisory council members and $50 for nonmembers
