Mid-Valley
Music competition open to students
Information is available for the Tri-Counties Music Competition, open to students in grades first to 12th in Yuba, Sutter and Colusa counties.
Sponsors are also sought for the 16th annual event.
Applicants must be taking music lessons from a private teacher or be involved in their school music program.
The competition includes piano, voice and instrumental divisions and is divided by grade level.
Selections must be performed in the original version and are from the baroque, classical, romantic and 20th century/contemporary periods.
Applications fees are $30 for grades first to sixth and $35 for grades seventh to 12th. Applications are due by March 28.

Mid-Valley
Scholarship open to area students
High school students in Yuba, Sutter and Buttes counties are eligible to apply for $1,000 scholarships offered through the SAFE Credit Union.
The 10 college-bound seniors receiving the scholarships will be selected on exceptional grade-point average, financial need, community involvement, letters of recommendation and a personal statement.

Applications must be postmarked by March 12 and mailed to SAFE Credit Union, attention marketing, P.O. Box 1057, North Highlands, CA 95660-1057.
The program is also open to students in Sacramento, Placer, Yolo, Amador, Contra Costa, Nevada, San Joaquin, Solano and El Dorado counties.
Sutter County
Registration to open for kindergarten
Kindergarten registration for all schools in the Yuba City Unified School District begins March 5 for the 2012-2013 school year.
Children must be 5 years of age on or before Nov. 1.
Registration requires proof of residency and the child's birth certificate and immunization record.
Parents are asked to contact their neighborhood school for more information.
Maxwell
Kindergarten registration to open
Kindergarten registration for the school year 2012-2013 for Maxwell Elementary School is from 1 to 4 p.m. March 28 at the school cafeteria.
Eligible students must have been born on or before Nov. 2, 2007.
The child's birth certificate and shot record are required at the time of registration.
The school is at 146 North St., Maxwell. For more information, call 438-2401, ext. 12160.
