City issues Lights On proclamation

Corning's City Council issued a proclamation during Tuesday's meeting declaring Oct. 18 as Lights on After School Day.

On that day, Tehama County SERRF will be holding its annual Lights on After School event at elementary schools throughout the county.

Beth Birk, Tehama County Department of Education recreation specialist, was presented the proclamation, which stated, "the City of Corning stands firmly committed to quality after school programs and opportunities."

This year's SERRF theme is "Who is Your Super Hero," said Birk, which will also be the focus of the Lights On events.

Maywood Middle School is holding its event from 3:45 p.m.-5 p.m. with the theme "Follow In My Footsteps!"

Lights On at Olive View School will take place from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and the theme is "All the Strength You Need is Right There Inside You!"

Rancho Tehama School's Lights On theme is "Quality Family Time While Crafting" and will take place from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

"SERRF Super Heroes at a Glance," is the theme for Richfield School's event from 4 p.m.-5:45 p.m.

West Street School is holding Lights On from 3:30 p.m.-5 p.m. with the theme Super Heroes Serving Their Families, and Woodson School is focusing on college with "College Matters at Woodson!" from 4 p.m.-5:30 p.m.

The Lights On events include student activities, food, crafts, learning centers, displays and exhibits.

Lights On is free and open to the public.
