The Encinal Elementary School Parent's Club is hosting its annual Holiday Boutique Craft Fair from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 13 in the school's multipurpose room.

The fair is open to the public, with proceeds benefiting the school's Parent's Club. The school is at 6484 Larkin Road, Live Oak.

 

The Yuba City Kumon Center held an award ceremony to recognize its 96 students achieving North American Advanced Student Honor Roll during its fifth year in service.

Special recognition was given to Sumana Kondle, 12, the second and youngest student to complete the math and reading programs. A student at Barry Elementary School, she was earlier ranked No. 1 in her grade level out of more than 10,600 Kumon math students and was a finalist in the American Association of University Women essay contest, winning a scholarship to the group's Tech Trek science camp.

Also recognized were Baldeep Rai, 16, a student at River Valley High School, for also completing both math and reading programs; and Manraj Garcha, 15, of Yuba City High School for his completion of the math program.

 

The drama "Girl in the Mirror" will be presented by Live Oak High School drama students at 7 p.m. Dec. 8 and 10 in the auditorium, 2351 Pennington Road, Live Oak.

Tickets are available for purchase at the school office. Cost for the tickets is $3 in advance or $4 at the door.

 

Holly Tarr, 12, a seventh-grade student at Anna McKenney Intermediate School, is set to attend the Junior National Young Leaders Conference Saturday to Nov. 13 in Washington, D.C.

The daughter of Ken and Marcy Tarr of Marysville, she is involved in her school through student government, leadership classes and sports. She is also involved in Anna McKenney's Parent Student Teacher Organization and at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

During the young leaders conference, students will take part in presentations and educational activities, including meeting with elected officials and visits to monuments and memorials.

 

Leadership students at River Valley High School in Yuba City are collecting school supplies for students at Travis Elementary School in Baytown, Texas, victims of Hurricane Ike.

Items sought for Operation H.E.A.R.T. include pens and pencils, glue sticks, binder and construction papers, lunch boxes, backpacks, children's reading books and coats, belts and socks.

Donations can be left between 7 and 8 a.m. and 3 and 4 p.m. Wednesday and Dec. 10 at the school's main entrance on Spirit Way, at the school's main office or any day in Room 406.

The school is at 801 El Margarita Road.
