Canalin scores 24 in Pirates' victory
Troy Canalin had 24 points, 15 steals and 10 assists to lead the Wheatland High boys basketball team to an 81-63 Butte View League win at Winters Tuesday.
Devin Sullivan added 17 points and 14 rebounds for the Pirates
Live Oak 51, Willows 36
Rj Raju scored 16 points to lead Live Oak (7-8, 1-1) to a Greater Mountain Valley League win at home over Willows.
Chris Harris scored 15 points and had 11 rebounds for Live Oak. Kyle Mills scored 12 points and added six assists for the Lions.
Oroville 62, Gridley 41
Simon Lamsom scored nine points to lead Gridley, but the Bulldogs lost the Butte View League game at Oroville. Jose Solis added eight points forGridley.
Orland 67, Sutter 40
Sutter fell behind 15-5 in the opening period and never recovered in a Butte View League loss at home.
Josh DeGroodt scored a team-high 10 points for the Huskies (2-14, 0-2).
Sacramento Waldorf 76,
Faith Christian 64
Hayden Keeley scored 27 points to lead Faith Christian, but the Lions lost the Central Valley Christian League game at home to Sacramento Waldorf.
Michael Garrett scored 18 points and had eight rebounds while Carson Risenhoover added 10 points for the Lions.
Durham 61, Colusa 39
Matthew Vedo scored nine points to lead Colusa (3-14), but the Redskins lost the Greater Mountain Valley League game at Durham. Steve Lambertson scored eight points for the Redskins.
Paradise Adventist 64, Maxwell 61
Alonso Chavez and Brandon Ottenwalter both scored 20 points for Maxwell (11-5, 3-2) in the North Valley League loss in Maxwell.

Kennedy 58, Yuba City 35
Jazzi Johnson scored 13 and Stephanie Ota added 12 to power visiting Kennedy over Yuba City (7-10, 1-3) in Metro Conference play.
Danielle Snyder had 11 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks to lead the Honkers.
East Nicolaus 42, Delta 34
Chelsea Geoia scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead East Nicolaus (5-11, 1-0) to a Sacramento Valley League win at Delta.
Ann Wimple scored 11 points and had eight rebounds for the Spartans while Michelle Wasina dished 10 assists.
Durham 44, Colusa 19
Katie Kittle scored eight points to lead Colusa (9-6, 0-1), but the Redskins lost the Greater Mountain Valley League contest to visiting Durham.
Sacramento Waldorf 67, Faith Christian 22
Tierzah Brown scored eight points to lead Faith Christian (10-4), but the Lions lost the Central Valley Christian League game to visiting Sacramento Waldorf.
With Senior Kim Martin out with a hyper-extended knee and Senior Destiny Penterman out with a concussion, Faith Christian was forced to play with seven girls - five sophomores and two juniors.
BOYS SOCCER
Live Oak 3, Bishop Quinn 0
Goalkeeper Ricky Escoto recorded a shutout and the Lions (5-2-2) handed visiting Bishop Quinn its first loss of the season in a nonleague contest.
Dirceo Ramirez, Francisco Becerra and Louis Fregoso each scored goals for Live Oak. Juan Tinoco and Ramirez had an assist each.
Oroville 2, Sutter 1
Joey Spurling gave Sutter (8-7-1, 1-2) a 1-0 lead in the first half, but Oroville scored two unanswered goals to grab the Butte View League win at Sutter.
Chris Haines, Humberto Alvarado, Shane Hodges and Casey Foster all played well in the loss, said Sutter coach Gurdeep Bhattal.
Gridley 8, Wheatland 3
Leo Zarate scored three goals and had two assists to lead Gridley (9-1-0, 4-0-0) to the Butte View League win at Wheatland.
Alex Alejo and Jorge Martinez each scored two goals for the Bulldogs. Aurelio Guzman scored one goal and had one assist for Gridley. Gabe Martinez also had an assist in the win. Goalie Ivan Matinez had seven saves for the Bulldogs.
GIRLS SOCCER
Wheatland 2, Gridley 0
Noemi Colmeneras and Shazakia Poe-lyde scored goals for the Pirates (12-0-1, 3-0-1) in the Butte View League win in Wheatland.
Poe-lyde now has 19 goals on the season.
Celeste Harrington, Samantha Moore, Courtney Ladue and Ashley Teter all played well defensively, said Wheatland coach Pierre Preaseau.
Goalie Mia Bulanan had four saves for Wheatland. It was her eighth shutout of the year.
Sutter 11, Oroville 0
Kayla Sevinger scored three goals to lead Sutter (14-0-2, 3-0) to Butte View League win over Oroville.
Julia Grimes scored two goals for the Huskies while Tessa Brandt, Marianna Danna, Lianne Decker, Lexy Kidd, Lindsay Nichols, and Petra Tica added one goal each.
Kidd had three assists while Decker, Taylor Franco, Mallory Hilbers, and Hailey Taylor each had one each.
Goalie Shannon Baker recorded the shutout for Sutter.

River Valley (1-3, 1-1) topped McClatchy on the strength of pins by Ulises Teyes (130), Kenny Gibbs (135), David Ramirez (145) and Ryan Summers (160).

Anthony Barrera scored 20 points to lead Lindhurst (12-3, 4-1) to a win over Inderkum. Victor Arroyo scored 14 points in the win while teammate Joey VIllasenor scored 13 points.

Casey Doss scored 15 points to lead Faith Christian (0-15, 0-4), but the Lions lost to Sacramento Waldorf. Jacob Ithurburn scored 11 points for the Lions.

Juan Robles scored 17 points, and Danile Gonzales added 16 for the Lions (14-1, 2-0) in the Greater Mountain Valley League victory.

Marie Heier scored 16 points to lead Yuba City (12-4, 5-0) to a win at Kennedy.

Torrey Hulsey scored 12 points and had 16 rebounds to lead Sutter (1-1), but the Huskies lost to Orland. Tawnie Savage scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Sutter.

Evelyn Soto scored a team-high 13 points, but the Redskins (5-13, 0-1) dropped their Greater Mountain Valley League-opening game.

Eric Arroyo scored 12 points and Sia Lor added 11 for the Blazers (8-5, 2-3) in the Golden Empire League loss at home.

Dariusz Ratajczak scored 13 points including three 3-point goals to lead Sutter (5-2) to a victory over Orland.
Nikos Crohn also scored 13 points for the Huskies.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
Yuba 77, Merritt 75
Yuba held a 14-point lead with 3 1/2 minutes remaining, but Merritt “caught fire” said Yuba coach Doug Cornelius, hitting four straight 3-point baskets to pull even.
A final Merritt 3-point try as time expired went in and out, and Yuba escaped Oakland with the Bay Valley Conference win.
Mareceo Rutledge led the 49ers with 24 points, including five 3s, while Demetrius Young had 19 points and Trevor Pitts had 17.
“Young came off the bench and gave us a big lift,” Cornelius said. “It was his season high scoring and he also had 12 rebounds.”

Garner and Autrey win all-around
Jeremy Garner and Candiss Autrey took all-around honors in the boys and girls divisions, respectively, at last weekend's CHSRA District 3 high school rodeo.
Daniel Rice was the reserve boys all-around and rookie all-around winner while Megan McGinn won the reserve girls all-around and Chelsea Lance won the girls rookie all-around.
Garner had event wins in both steer wrestling and tie down roping.
Other event winners were Erica Krantz in breakaway roping, Alyssa Skinner in poles, Tommy Diaz in boys cutting, Dillon Events in bull riding, Erica Krantz and Riley York in team roping, Kylee Colmer in barrels, Alena Slater in goat tying, Farrah Dobbas in girls cutting, Nick Mitchell in saddle bronc, and Eric Coppin in bareback.
