PREP ROUNDUP: Marysville soccer opens with victory
The Marysville High boys soccer team topped Golden Sierra 2-1 at home to win its season opener on Friday.
Thomas Mehler scored a goal and chipped in an assist to Neil Lingenfelter.
Freddy Terriquez had five saves in goal.
VOLLEYBALL
Faith Christian 3, Foresthill 0
Faith rolled Foresthill 25-22, 25-23, 25-12 in its home season-opener.
The Lions got nine killls, seven blocks and three aces from Shon Ritchie and five kills, five blocks and seven aces from Kelsey Daugherty.
The JV team topped Foresthill 25-13, 25-21.
Sarah Verhalen led the team in aces and Alex Gaither led the team in kills.
JV FOOTBALL
Sutter 41, Bethel 12
Brayden Hungrige and Cobe Willis each scored two rushing touchdowns and the Huskies cruised past Bethel at home.
Alex Lopez scored a touchdown and had an interception and Riley Vickner also scored on a rushing touchdown.
River Valley 49, Central Valley 0
T.J. Morrow scored three rushing touchdowns, Tino Caracciola added two more and the Falcons blanked CV at home.
Jordan Greminger and Sam Van Dusen both scored a touchown for River Valley (2-0).
Marysville 59, Foresthill 13
David Duncan scored five touchdowns as the Indians routed the Wildfires in Foresthill.
Kao Thao, Jullian Hudson and Jacob Sellers all scored touchdowns for Marysville (1-0).
Dallin Knudson led the charge defensively with an interception and fumble recovery. Bryce Sexton added a sack for the Indians.
FROSH FOOTBALL
Yuba City 35, Davis 12
Bailey Elkins had touchdown runs of 6 and 4 yards and Isacc Torres hauled in a 62-yard TD pass from Alex Rowe as the Honkers opened their season with a victory over the Blue Devils on Thursday night in Davis.
Rowe added an 8-yard rushing touchdown, Mikey Passaglia had a 57-yard scoring run and Johnathon Rodriguez finished with 11 carries for 112 yards on the night.
Torres also had an interception and Blake Kent, Anthony Bagely and Spencer Kibbe had strong games defensively for Yuba City (1-0).
