Whats Happening in Stonyford: Hooray, no more political ads!

ell, aren't we all happy to see the elections finished!

The political ads were just everywhere. You were bombarded with them anytime you turned the television on. It got so that Larry and I watched TV with the remote in hand so we could hit the mute button when it was time for the commercials.

I just hope they keep the price of gas down. It's nice to see it under $4 right now. But I remember when we were outraged that it went up to $3 a gallon.

Actually, we remember when the price was 15 cents for regular and 17 cents for high grade. But that's another story.

We had a service station in Watsonville, and a gas war just about drove us out of business. It was on Highway 1 right across from the beautiful St Patrick's Church. The last time we were down there was after the '89 earthquake. We drove through Santa Cruz and Watsonville to see the effects of the quake. They were just in clean-up mode then.

St Pat's spires were damaged, but eventually repaired. Beautiful old houses were shifted from their foundations. The corner where our station was had a pancaked house on it.

The Turkey Shoot was a great success. The turnout was good, the games were played until they ran out of turkeys and hams.

I was at the craft fair in Elk Creek. These two events are always on the same day, so I go to Elk Creek and Larry makes an appearance at the turkey shoot. I hear the skeet shooters were so enthusiastic that they had to be shoo-ed away at the end of the day.

Assembly of God church is having a potluck on Sunday after the service. It'll be at the church, at 12:30 p.m. It's for Pastor Greg; he's been here five years now.

Veterans Day is Sunday. Thank you to the 4-H for decorating at the Stonyford Cemetery. As far as I know, there is no ceremony planned. But it's nice to take the short drive out there and pay your respects.

Tuesday dinner at the Grange was a sellout. I guess we'll have to have pork roast again soon. I'm so sorry that we had to turn one family away after we were out of roast. Fresh homemade apple pie arrived to serve dessert, hot from the oven.

Next week, we're having potato and ham soup, with salad and bread and dessert. We'll try to make sure we have plenty for everyone.

I've been working with two girls from 4-H, helping each to make a quilt. They have the tops sewn. We will assemble the layers this Saturday, and tie them. Thank you to the girls for participating. It's nice to see the younger ones learning this old-time tradition.

Sew What?! ladies are not meeting this Wednesday. Chit Chat is at the Grange on Wednesday, having lunch at noon.

Some of the quilting ladies will be hitting the road to Paskenta on Tuesday. We always enjoy meeting with another group, getting new ideas.ì·°
