Northern Section squads punch tickets for postseason
17 Mid-Valley programs enter playoffs
The CIF Northern Section held its basketball playoff seeding meeting on Saturday morning at Chico's Pleasant Valley High School and 17 Mid-Valley programs earned spots in the postseason.
Leading the charge on the girls side is Sutter High, which earned the No. 1 seed in Division IV after taking home the program's first Butte View League title since the 2000-01 season.
The Huskies (17-7) also earned a first-round bye, and on Thursday, will host the winner of Tuesday's first-round matchup between fellow BVL squads No. 8 Winters (9-15) and No. 9 Gridley (9-16).
Colusa (14-11) picked up the No. 10 seed and will make the long trip up to Susanville to face No. 7 Lassen (13-10) on Tuesday. Should the RedHawks win, they would face No. 2 Anderson (16-10).
A local-on-local matchup looms ahead on Tuesday in Division V as No. 6 Biggs (12-12) will host No. 11 East Nicolaus (9-16). No. 13 Williams (5-13) will travel to No. 4 Fall River (14-9).
The Maxwell ladies earned the No. 1 seed in Division VI and picked up a first-round bye. The Panthers (16-5) will host the winner of Redding Adventist vs. Paradise Adventist on Friday.
On the boys' side of things, Gridley is looking to make its second consecutive trip to the Northern Section Division IV championship.
The Bulldogs (16-10) earned the No. 4 seed this season and a first-round bye. On Friday, they will face the winner of Wednesday's first-round tilt between No. 5 Live Oak (16-5) and No. 12 Colusa (12-13).
No. 6 Wheatland (15-10) will host No. 11 Lassen (10-16) on Tuesday, and No. 7 Sutter (15-10) hosts No. 10 Yreka (9-15). The Pirates would travel to No. 3 Central Valley (15-11) if they win and the Huskies would face BVL champion and No. 2 seed Orland (22-4) with a victory.
Corning (24-2) earned the top seed in Division IV.
Sacramento Valley League co-champion Pierce (17-6) picked up the No. 5 seed in Division V and hosts No. 12 Los Molinos (9-16) on Wednesday.
No. 8 Biggs (13-12) will host Tulelake (16-7), No. 10 East Nicolaus (9-14) travels up to No. 7 Portola (11-11) and No. 15 Williams (6-15) makes the long road trip up to Modoc (20-4).
Maxwell was champion of the Mid-Valley League and earned the No. 5 seed in Division VI. The Panthers (16-6) will host No. 12 Redding Adventist on Wednesday.
