Letter: Prison sentences don't make sense

November 29, 2008 - 9:16 PM

There’s something wrong with this picture. A man was convicted and sentenced to 21-plus years for legally (by public vote) selling marijuana. Then in another story, a pervert gets 16 years for violating a young girl sexually, starting at a young age, and then tormenting and turning family members against her while her mother is sick and dying. Not to mention this was her stepfather.

The punishments don’t fit these crimes. How can this be considered justice? Plea bargains don’t belong in some cases such as rape or any type of sexual violence or crimes against children (Maybe in these cases public execution might be a good option). The other man was selling marijuana, in a medical marijuana facility, and he got more time in prison. This just doesn’t make sense.
