Letter: Highlands can't pay cost of services

January 31, 2008 - 3:13 PM

I would like to encourage all citizens to vote "no" on the Yuba Highlands housing project. It would put 5,100 homes in an area devoid of any services such as water, sewer, schools, stores, businesses, fire protection and police services.

This is called leap-frog development. It is the worst possible kind of development, due to it not being connected in any traditional manner with the common services needed to support the needs of its residents. This type of development is strongly discouraged by state laws, yet your local politicians have ignored these, as well as other sound advice from experts in the private and public sectors.

I can say from experience that developments of this size never pay the true cost of future impacts of the ongoing services mentioned above. Please keep Yuba County a wonderful place to live for now and future generations and vote "no" on Yuba Highlands.
