Lydia Sherrin of Marysville goes to the Hallwood Community Church of the Nazarene.

Lydia Sherrin

Age: 55.

Family: Daughters, Lindsey Ford and Kelli Rice; son, Corey Sherrin; three grandchildren. My husband, Michael, died in September.

Residence: Marysville.

Occupation: Paraprofessional for Yuba City Unified School District.

Hobbies, interests: My main interest is the prayer quilt ministry with the church. I started this five years ago — sewing and praying for others. I also cook, especially holiday cooking to give out treats including at least one to a person deployed; gardening. I love working with children; also play guitar and sing at Union Gospel Mission in Sacramento or the Twin Cities Rescue Mission in Marysville and at church. I have been worship leader at various churches in the area.

What brought you to the Yuba-Sutter area? I am fourth-generation here — my husband and I lived out of state for 15 years and came back because of family.

Place of worship you attend: Hallwood Community Church of the Nazarene.

How long have you attended? I grew up in that church, but most recently for the past six years.

What is the importance of faith in your life? Faith is what sustains me during tough times. We all go through tough times — (especially) the past three years when my husband was diagnosed with ALS. Faith has gotten me through that, having to deal with that and to be able to take care of him. I was his caregiver and I needed all the strength I could get. I needed my faith in God and the support of family and friends.

How do you live out your faith? By keeping my promises. And being a good example.

Faith in Action appears Saturdays. It features a member of a church, temple or mosque and the importance of their faith. To suggest someone to be featured, contact Faith & Family coordinator Larry Badger at 749-4776.
