Letter: Pig in a poke shows true colors

As I sit here today, I would like to offer  a variation on Michelle Obama’s words: “For the first time in my adult life, I am afraid for my country.”

Why do I say that? It is because of the direction the politicians in general, and Mr. Obama in particular, are taking this country. They are taking the country down the road to socialism/communism, what with the takeover of banks, automobile companies, and now the health insurance of the country. They want to make every citizen so dependent on the government that they have no choice but to go along with whatever comes out of Washington, D.C. This started back in 1930 with Roosevelt’s “New Deal.”

The schools have become places of indoctrination for the children. Just look at the recent incidents where the teachers led the children in singing their little songs praising Mr. Obama. To me, this is reminiscent of the Hitler Youth or the Young Pioneer group of East Germany and the Soviet Union. And what is with all of these so-called czars being appointed? Unfortunately, with the Democrats’ control of the Congress, it does not make any difference – they will go along with anything Mr. Obama wants to do.

So to the people that voted for Mr. Obama, and continue to support him, I say folks it looks like you bought yourselves a pig in a poke. One can only hope that the folks wake up and make some changes in 2010 and 2012.

PAY HIKE?
What should the board of trustees do with the proposed $29,282 pay raise for Chancellor Nicki Harrington?
Rescind it. Now is not the time.
Give it to her. She should be compensated fairly and competitively.
