Sox launch Spanish Web site
June 13, 2006 - The Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox baseball club has launched a Spanish-language website, www.GoldSoxEnEspanol.com. The Web site is a companion to the team's English-language site, www.GoldSox.com.
Both Web sites contain current and archived news and information about the Gold Sox, an extensive photo gallery and game schedules, summaries and statistics.
Teresita Castro-McGee led the development of www.GoldSoxEnEspanol.com. Castro-McGee is an instructor for University Extension at UC Davis, where her courses have included employment and management issues, leadership, and workplace diversity. She is a partner in a consulting firm where she designs and delivers management and workplace training programs in English and to Spanish-speaking populations.
"The Gold Sox have enjoyed a large and growing following among Spanish-speaking baseball fans throughout Yuba-Sutter,'' said Castro-McGee. By launching www.GoldSoxEnEspansol.com, the Gold Sox bring themselves that much closer to a very important segment of their fan base."
Dr. Castro-McGee continued, "Baseball is a much-loved sport throughout the Spanish-speaking world. It is a sport with special appeal for children and families. A Spanish-language website with world-wide coverage permits the Gold Sox to extend their reach well beyond Yuba-Sutter."
“The Web site is an important step for us in serving the large population of Spanish-speaking and baseball-loving fans in this community” said Peter Bavasi, who manages the Gold Sox along with brother Bob Bavasi. “As well, the Gold Sox advertise on local Spanish radio and we continue our efforts to recruit local Spanish-flavored bands and artists for the Appeal-Democrat's Music & the Arts with the Gold Sox project.”
Gold Sox home games are played every Thursday through Sunday through Aug. 6 at All Seasons RV Stadium, at the corner of 14th and B Streets in Marysville. Games start at 7 p.m., and the stadium gates open at 6:30 p.m.
The Gold Sox is a part of a wood-bat league whose roster is made up of collegiate players. The Gold Sox play 44 home games each summer at All Seasons RV Stadium in Marysville. The Gold Sox is the host team for the Horizon Air Summer Series, an 11-week competition among teams from the Western United States comprised of today's best college baseball players.
