Sox release schedule

The Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox announced its 2005 schedule Monday, and aside from a three newcomers, the Horizon Air Summer Series will feature familiar opponents.

The collegiate wood bat organization will open the season May 27 against the Novato Knicks. The season ends August 7.

The Gold Sox will play 44 of their 52 games at home. They will make five one-game road trips to the Solano Thunderbirds, while visiting the Oakland Eagles once and the Salinas Valley Packers for a two-game set.

Yuba-Sutter was 0-4 against the Thunderbirds in 2004 at Travis Credit Union Park in Vacaville.

The Aloha Knights of Portland, Ore. join the summer series along with the NorCal Longhorns and Suisun City Sultans.

The Knights won the National Baseball Congress World Series held in Wichita, Kansas in 2004. They feature mostly Div. I players.

“I'm real excited about playing (the Knights),” Gold Sox manager Brad Peek said. “The Longhorns have a good reputation, too.”

Peek said the new schedule will be good for the Gold Sox.

“We have lost a little from the top and some from the bottom, but it has brought in more quality teams,” Peek said.

Making return trips to Marysville are: The Folsom Pioneers, the Maxim Yankees, the Eagles, the Oakland Expos, the Sacramento Legends, the Solano Mudcats, the Packers, the Thunderbirds and the Sacramento Scorch.

The Gold Sox were 39-15 overall last season, 4-6 when away from Marysville.
