Life briefs: Assemblyman speaking at tea party meeting
Yuba City
State Assemblyman Tim Donnelly is the guest speaker for the Feb. 4 meeting of the Sutter Buttes Tea Party Patriots in Yuba City.
Donnelly, R-Twin Peaks, will talk about the 2nd Amendment and the impact of the Democrat super-majority in the California Legislature.
The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m., doors open at 6 p.m., at the Sutter-Yuba Association of Realtors, 1558 Starr Drive.

Lodge hosts Gold Wing staff meeting
The Moose Lodge in Yuba City hosted the National Gold Wing Touring Association's first state staff meeting of the year, with the Family of the Year for Northern California named during the program held Jan. 12.
Four families vied for the honor, including Skip and Teri Trautman from Chapter "T" Tri-County Travelers in Marysville; Dave and Shelly Caudle and their children, Chapter "F" Sacramento River City Wings; Luiz Reyes, Chapter "Z" Bay Area Golden Gate Wings; and Cathy Cassevah and her children, Chapter "V" Woodland Road Runners.
The Caudle family was selected to compete in the region level.
Region B includes California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico and Hawaii.
Colusa
Stagehands set auditions for play
Auditions are set for an upcoming production of "Steel Magnolias" by The Stagehands in Colusa.
The roles are for women in their late teens or older.
Auditions are at 6 p.m. Feb. 4 and 5 at the Stagehands Theater on the Colusa County Fairgrounds, 1303 10th St., Colusa.
The play will be performed in May.

Class planned on breastfeeding
A free class on "Breastfeeding: How to, why to" for expectant and new mothers and their support person is set at the Fremont-Rideout Conference Center, 989 Plumas St., Yuba City.
Planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 13, the class is part of the Rideout Health Community Education Program.

Volunteers are sought to play various historical characters in Smartsville Pioneer Day planned April 27.

Teachers tour mushroom plant
Members of the California Retired Teachers Association Division 53, Area 2, received containers of mushrooms after their tour Jan. 16 at the Premier Mushroom Company in Colusa.
The group learned about the process of growing mushrooms which includes different rooms with various temperatures. The plants are also handpicked at different times.
