• What brought you to the Yuba-Sutter area? Moved to Sutter on April 11, 1969. I had a cousin who owned a business named Yuba-Sutter Body Shop. I worked as an automobile painter for several years. My father was in the military and got transferred to different bases throughout California. I’m originally from San Diego.
• What are your favorite places to go in the Sacramento area? West Sacramento. I go there frequently to visit friends and family. My three children are grown up and living in Sacramento.
• What is your dream job? Custodian. It’s better than painting cars.
• What is your favorite part of the job? I enjoy getting everything clean for other people and meeting different people and children on the job.
• Do you belong to any clubs or organizations in the community? Sacramento Valley Angling and Camping Club of the Deaf
• What are some of your fondest memories? Marrying my wife. We celebrated 34 years of marriage on Oct. 19.
• Favorite music: When everyone is out of the house, I like to close all windows and doors and turn up the volume to play any rock ‘•’ roll music.
• Favorite television show: I like watching the monster shows on the Sci-Fi Channel that play every Saturday night at 9 p.m. and “Stargate Atlantis” every Friday night.
• Favorite sports team: Sutter High School football
• Who do you most admire and why? My mother-in-law. I love her. I used to tease her all the time. She has passed away.
• Tell us about a life-changing experience: I survived cancer from smoking. This month I will have passed one year of quitting smoking.
• What was your first job? Picking pears for summer near West Sacramento for $3 a hour when I was 15 years old
• Favorite movie: “300.” It took me three times to get in before I finally got to see it.
• When/how did you become deaf? Two years old. I became hard of hearing while living in San Diego, but don’t know why.
• Favorite movie stars: Steven Seagal and Jean-Claude Van Damme
