Dollar store opens at North Pointe in Y.C.
Stretch-A-Buck Dollar and Discount Store, with a variety of items for sale at $1 or a little more, has opened in the North Pointe Shopping Center, 451 Queens Ave., Yuba City.
The new business is owned by Kim Worthy, a Yuba-Sutter resident since 1986.
She has several years of experience in retail, banking and bookkeeping.
The store is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.
River Valley Community Bank earnings up 20 percent
River Valley Community Bank recorded a 20 percent increase in basic after-tax earnings per share for the year ending Dec. 31 compared to the amount posted in 2010.
For the fourth quarter, the bank earned $307,827 compared to $284,102 in the fourth quarter of 2010. The bank, headquartered in Yuba City, has posted 18 consecutive profitable quarters.
Total assets and deposits were $140,535,489 and $121,160,200, respectively, at year end, up 3 percent and 2 percent each from the previous year.
Employment law is topic at Chamber breakfast
"Employment Law" is the topic of this month's Business Connection Breakfast sponsored by the Yuba-Sutter Chamber of Commerce.
The program starts at 7:30 a.m. Friday at The Refuge Restaurant, 1501 Butte House Road, Yuba City.
Cost for the event is $15 due by 4 p.m. Wednesday, or $20 thereafter. For reservations, call 743-6501.
The Chamber has also scheduled several ribbon-cutting ceremonies for businesses in the community.

Small-business course slated at development center
A new 14-week session of the "Grow Your Business: The A — Z of Small Business Success" course is scheduled at the Small Business Development Center in Yuba City.
Classes are slated from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays from Feb. 7 to May 15 at 1227 Bridge St., Suite C.
Topics include how to write a business plan, marketing and permits and licensing.
Registration is $150 and includes a textbook and handouts.
