Three Cheers Letter: Stranger praised for rescuing child in traffic
I would like to give recognition and commendation to a man who pulled a small child out of the traffic lanes on Bridge Street at Palora in Yuba City on Oct. 24.
Sitting in my car facing the street, I was horrified to see this little boy, about 3 years old, dart out into the street while no cars were approaching. He looked back as if someone were behind him, but no one appeared. I fumbled with my purse on my lap, and opening my seat belt, in order to open my door and run for him. As he continued running down the middle of the street, one driver stopped. Behind that car, a truck stopped, a man jumped out — leaving his door wide open, and grabbed the child.
He ran to the parking area where I was parked and put the boy in an approaching woman's arms, then turned quickly and ran back to his truck stopped in the mid-day traffic, with the door ajar.
As he had run by me with the boy, I had thanked him several times, but I would like to give public recognition to a real "hero."
With poor vision, but determination, I read the truck's sign when he closed his door. It read: Black Magic Chimney Sweep.
Thank you again, caring citizen.
