Letter: Students' food drive overwhelms teacher
I would like to take this opportunity to publicly recognize just how awesome my 113 senior students at Yuba City High School are, and thank them for their selfless dedication to this year’s canned food drive.
With the combination of the difficult economic times and a fewer overall number of seniors in my classes this year, I had my doubts as to whether or not they would meet my challenge and bring in over 10,000 food items for the drive. They not only met the challenge, but exceeded last year’s total with an amazing 16,073 separate food items
It is an inspiration to me that with all the things students have going on in their lives, they take the time and put forth the effort to really help those in need. Students went door-to-door, set up donation tables outside local grocery stores, and asked local businesses for donations. They were extremely organized and ingenious in their tackling of this project.
Of course, none of this could have been accomplished without some help. A big “thank you” to all the businesses, individual community members, and parents who helped my students reach this monumental feat.
