Letter: Reader takes shot at survivors' shots

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

October is a month of celebration for cancer survivors. I applaud those survivors and am hopeful for a cure so all will survive this deadly disease.

I was dismayed to see a photograph (published twice in one week) showing survivors at the Pink October Survivor Fashion Show celebrating their survival with a shot of tequila.

With a world that struggles with alcohol and drug addiction, I found this type of celebrating to be a terrible message. Clean and sober addicts are survivors and they struggle day by day to continue to be survivors so why celebrate the survival of cancer with a drink of alcohol?

Don't you think there are better ways to celebrate the gift of life? Perhaps just a group hug would have sent a better message.

PAY HIKE?
What should the board of trustees do with the proposed $29,282 pay raise for Chancellor Nicki Harrington?
Rescind it. Now is not the time.
Give it to her. She should be compensated fairly and competitively.
