Suspected thief forgets to turn off camera in Yuba County

Smile for the stolen camera — you're going to jail.

A suspected surveillance camera thief was arrested Monday after investigators used footage from the same cameras he was suspected of stealing to catch him.

"Footage from the cameras was downloaded into a computer in the business," Yuba County sheriff's Lt. Damon Gil explained.

That left a visual record of each of the thefts for deputies to watch and helped lead to the arrest Monday afternoon of a Linda man.

Keith E. Cook-Fisher, 27, of Linda, was booked Monday into the Yuba County Jail on suspicion of conspiracy. He was still in custody Tuesday. Bail was set at $11,000.

The Sheriff's Department is looking for a second man in connection with the weekend thefts that targeted the Harmony Health Clinic in the 1900 block of North Beale Road in Linda. A description was not available.

Thieves carried off 12 security cameras from the clinic during three burglaries between Saturday and Sunday night, Sheriff Steve Durfor said in a statement.

"Deputies were able to recover six of the stolen cameras," Durfor said.

Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to call the Sheriff's Department at 749-7735.
